Haltom City…a quick look

Haltom City wasn’t a city that founders of AUYD just picked as a place to invest in.

We have been working with and empowering a group of children and youth in the southern part of Haltom City for over 7 years. Five miles from downtown Fort Worth, this neighborhood, in a 1 mile radius, an elementary school, government housing projects, trailer parks, and voucher apartment complexes.

Census data shows high levels of adults with no high school diplomas and close to 30% of the population living below the poverty line and the county’s fourth lowest median household income.

The city as a whole has been known for decades as a haven for immigrants with 22% of the population being foreign born, the highest in Tarrant County.

This diverse population is what has caught our hearts and has challenged us to stay and invest in this city.
